Rey Mysterio is coming to New Japan (Video)

Earlier today, another little piece of history was made when it was announced that Rey Mysterio will make his New Japan debut next month against Jushin Thunder Liger at the promotions Strong Style Evolved show.

Mysterio appeared on the big screen in Osaka during the latest New Beginning show before BUSHI versus Gedo to call out Liger, who was present as a commentator. Liger was more than happy to accept Mysterio’s challenge, making the match official for the upcoming March 25th show in Long Beach.

NJPW ‘The New Beginning in Osaka’ Results & Review

Mysterio recently made waves a surprise entrant in last month’s Royal Rumble match for WWE. The video of Mysterio entering in at number 27 currently has over 12 million views on WWE’s YouTube page. By comparison, the video of Ronda Rousey making her appearance after the women’s Rumble has just over 3 millions views. The latter was a national story.

It’s unclear if Mysterio will wrestle under the New Japan banner or if the Liger match will be of the one time “dream match” variety.

Expect more matches to be announced for Strong Style Evolved in the coming days. The show will air live stateside on AXS TV with Jim Ross and Josh Barnett on commentary.
