NJPW ‘World Tag League 2018’ (12.4.18) Match Predictions

Seeing as the World Tag League is the least engaging time of the year to be a fan of New Japan, each night before the tournament I’ll be making match predictions. On the bottom of every ‘Results & Review’ article I’ll have a tally of my score so that you can keep up and gauge my accuracy. This is my way of trying to keep everyone engaged during the slow months leading up to Wrestle Kingdom. Feel free to give me a hard time on Twitter.

This will be another non-live/VOD show and as such, only the tournament matches will be uploaded. Therefore, I’ll only be predicting the matches that will actually be made available to watch.

World Tag League Tournament Match
Guerrillas of Destiny (8-2) vs Shota Umino & Ayato Yoshida (0-10)

What a wild moment if the young lions could pull an upset over the tag champions. I wish New Japan booked in a way that it was a possibility.
Prediction: Guerrillas of Destiny

World Tag League Tournament Match
Hangman Page & Yujiro Takahashi (4-6) vs Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi (1-9)

What a sad turnout for the legends. For both teams, really. Their record definitely doesn’t reflect how hard they’ve been going. No, it’s rarely pretty, but I have a soft spot for workboots Nakanishi.
Prediction: Page & Yujiro

World Tag League Tournament Match
Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi (5-5) vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima (3-7)

I need to stop picking Tencozy. Every match I feel forced to pick them. They’ve won some big matches and I have a strong feeling there are more to come. At this point I’ll just pick against them in hopes that the reverse psychology manages to give them the win.
Prediction: Sabre & Taichi

World Tag League Tournament Match
Killer Elite Squad (8-2) vs Togi Makabe & Toa Henare (4-6)

This would be a huge moment for Henare. He proved successful in nullifying Suzuki a couple of nights ago and he’ll look to do that again. Unfortunately for Makabe, both Archer and Smith are tougher wins than Iizuka.
Prediction: Killer Elite Squad

World Tag League Tournament Match
Jeff Cobb & Michael Elgin (6-4) vs Minoru Suzuki & Takashi Iizuka (5-5)

Suzuki and Iizuka have been quite the surprise. You’d have figured they’d be down in that Tencozy area but they’re currently sitting here at .500. I don’t see them finishing with a positive record and the team of Cobb and Elgin are on the rise into spoiler mode for the top teams.
Prediction: Cobb & Elgin

World Tag League Tournament Match
Beretta & Chuckie T. (5-5) vs Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano (8-2)

Speaking of spoiler mode, I think that’s exactly where Best Friends are headed. They face their Chaos brothers, a perfect situation for a win from Best Friends that hurts Chaos’ chance at winning the league and creates more tension within the group.
Prediction: Best Friends

World Tag League Tournament Match
EVIL & SANADA (8-2) vs Juice Robinson & David Finlay (6-4)

Another match with spoiler potential but I’m not betting on it happening. The success of FinJuice has been quite the surprise but a win over EVIL and SANADA would say a lot; possibly more than what New Japan wants to say right now.
Prediction: EVIL & SANADA

Tournament: 47/70
Overall: 54/83
