Friday Night SmackDown ends with surprise Cain Velasquez WWE debut

WWE’s FOX debut ended with a major surprise tonight inside of Los Angeles’ Staples Center as former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez appeared with Rey Mysterio to send a message to the new WWE Champ.

In response to Lesnar’s attack on Mysterio and his son, Dominick, this past Monday on RAW, the legendary Luchador brought some help tonight in the form of Velasquez, the man who TKO’d Lesnar to win the UFC championship 9 years ago this month in Anaheim.

Velasquez has been a major topic in the wrestling community since his AAA debut at TripleMania XXVII just months ago. The lifelong pro wrestling fan showcased what he’d been working on since beginning his training for his career change in a 6-man tag that saw him join Cody Rhodes and Psycho Clown to take on Killer Kross, Texano Jr. and Taurus.

Velasquez made his surprise debut on WWE programming tonight following a quick squash by Lesnar of now former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston in the main event off WWE’s Friday Night SmackDown debut on FOX.

Whether or not Velasquez continues to show up on WWE programming in the near future or we get a slow build to WrestleMania remains to be seen. It was recently reported by MMAJunkie that Velasquez will withdraw himself from the USADA testing pool signifying that his mixed martial arts career is over for now and he will concentrate on professional wrestling moving forward.

WWE put emphasis on their “Heavyweight” division tonight by also running an angle that involved Braun Strowman and boxing’s lineal heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.

Dave has been covering Pro Wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts for various websites since 2010. He currently runs both FightBooth and WrestlingDesk with the help of some lovely and talented people.
